Karen Bakke Art Exhibit, “The Alpha and the Omega”
Aiming to raise donations for two local nonprofit organizations, Hospice of the Red River Valley and FirstChoice Clinic and furthering Bakke’s artistic journey, Bakke painted the 100 oil portrait studies in preparation for a second training session with renowned portrait artist Igor Babailov.
Many community members participated in the project by sitting for portrait studies, including Margie Bailly, executive director of the Fargo Theatre, Bishop Samuel J. Aquila of the Catholic Diocese of Fargo and Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney.
Bakke has asked participants who wish to keep their portraits to make a donation to either Hospice of the Red River Valley or FirstChoice Clinic. Bakke is calling the project “The Alpha and the Omega” to signify the work of these two organizations; celebrating life—from conception to natural death.
“I was looking for a way to encourage volunteers to sit for a one-hour portrait study, while also benefitting two local organizations I personally support,” Bakke said. “I am very grateful to everyone who has helped make this project possible.”
